You can absolutely use IcyHot while breastfeeding, but there are a few things you might want to consider.

The main ingredients are menthol and methyl salicylate, which are generally considered safe during breastfeeding because very little actually enters the bloodstream.

Here's the “but”: Menthol has been suggested to potentially decrease milk supply 1 in some people. This doesn't happen to everyone, so don't worry too much, but it's something to keep in mind.

So if you've got some aches and pains and are considering reaching for the IcyHot, you're probably okay to do so. Just remember to use it as directed, and avoid applying it near the breast area to ensure your little one doesn't come into contact with it. If you’re experiencing breast pain due to inefficient latching or mastitis, use compresses for relief instead of topical medications. If you're worried about your milk supply or have any other concerns, definitely chat with your lactation consultant.
