The safety of Wegovy, or semaglutide, while breastfeeding is still up in the air.
Semaglutide is a peptide drug, and because of its high molecular weight and being heavily protein bound, it's expected that very little would make its way into breast milk 1 . On top of that, the drug would likely be broken down in the infant's stomach, making absorption unlikely.
That said, the data we have is limited, and until we have more information, it's recommended to exercise caution when using semaglutide during breastfeeding, especially when nursing a newborn or preterm infant.
It's always best to consult with your healthcare provider before starting any new medication while breastfeeding.
