If you’re a pregnant sushi lover, there’s good and bad news. Unfortunately, you’ll have to steer clear of sashimi, nigiri, and any sushi rolls that involve raw fish because of the increased risk of foodborne illness involved with raw seafood. You can, however, get away with eating any vegetarian rolls or sushi that contains cooked seafood, like a shrimp tempura roll.

With that said, because all sushi rolls will be prepared in the same kitchen at restaurants or sushi stands, there’s a greater risk of contamination with raw seafood. So it might be time to book that sushi-making lesson in order to enjoy a good pregnancy-safe California roll at home.
